The Senior Security Engineer, Security Solutions Engineering will be responsible for providing senior technical leadership as a hands-on developer and solution designer, building secure full-stack solutions and integrating AI capabilities that advance the Bank’s security engineering objectives.

 

Contributes to the overall success of the Security Solutions Engineering team in Canada by leading solution design, hands-on development, complex problem solving, and delivery of modern security engineering capabilities, including full-stack platforms, automation, and AI-enabled integrations, in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are compliant with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.


Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Provide senior technical leadership and hands-on delivery across the full solution lifecycle, from architecture and design through development, integration, deployment, and operational support.
  • Design and develop secure full-stack applications, services, APIs, and automations that support security engineering use cases across the Bank.
  • Lead solution design for complex technical problems, translating business and security requirements into scalable, supportable, and resilient engineering solutions.
  • Drive AI integration opportunities by identifying, designing, and implementing practical AI-enabled capabilities, accelerators, and workflow improvements within security engineering solutions.
  • Act as a strong problem solver for high-priority technical issues, performing root-cause analysis and delivering sustainable fixes across applications, integrations, and supporting platforms.
  • Build and enhance integrations with enterprise platforms, security tooling, and DevOps pipelines to improve developer experience, automation, and operational effectiveness.
  • Establish and promote engineering best practices across software design, code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate across engineering, security, architecture, product, and vendor teams to deliver solutions that meet functional, security, and operational requirements.
  • Mentor engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and code reviews while contributing directly as a hands-on developer on key initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement through metrics, feedback loops, and thoughtful simplification of systems, processes, and delivery practices.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Strong senior technical leadership that combines solution design expertise, hands-on software engineering depth, and practical delivery experience across secure full-stack platforms and integrations.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, technical leadership, or security engineering roles with direct hands-on development responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering full-stack solutions, including user interfaces, backend services, APIs, data integrations, and automation.
  • Strong solution design and architecture skills, with the ability to translate business and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable, and secure implementations.
  • Experience integrating AI or machine learning capabilities into applications, workflows, or engineering processes, with sound judgment on practical use cases and implementation trade-offs.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues across distributed systems and integrations.
  • Experience with modern SDLC, Agile delivery, DevOps practices, CI/CD, testing, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead technically, mentor others, and work effectively across engineering, security, and business teams
