Reporting to the Manager, Communications & External Relations, the Communications Advisor plays a key role in supporting internal and external communications, employee engagement, and organizational initiatives across Medavie Health Services operations in Newfoundland and Labrador.
 

Working closely with leaders, project teams, and colleagues across MHNL, the successful candidate will help plan and deliver communication strategies that inform, engage, and connect employees while supporting key business priorities, organizational change, and operational initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and relationship-builder who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys collaborating with interest groups, and can manage multiple priorities with confidence and professionalism.
 

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and delivering communication plans and strategies that support organizational priorities, business initiatives, operational updates, and key projects across MHNL .
  • Creating, editing, and coordinating content for a variety of communication channels, including newsletters, employee updates, presentations, key messages, speaking notes, website content, social media posts, and other communication materials.
  • Supporting employee engagement and internal communication initiatives by ensuring employees receive clear, timely, and relevant information that aligns with organizational objectives.
  • Providing communications support for change management, organizational projects, and cross-functional initiatives, working closely with leaders and project teams to develop and implement effective communication approaches.
  • Building strong relationships internally to gather information, identify communication needs, and provide strategic communications advice and support.
  • Monitoring of key regional and national news media to identify issues that may impact the operations and/or reputation of the organization and providing media support as needed.
  • Coordinating and supporting employee meetings, leadership communications, town halls, and other engagement activities.
  • Ensuring communications are consistent, aligned with organizational priorities, and reflect Medavie's brand, values, and culture.
  • Monitoring emerging issues, trends, and developments that may impact employees, operations, or organizational reputation, and providing communications support as needed.
  • Collaborating with communications colleagues across Medavie to share best practices, support enterprise initiatives, and contribute to the development of integrated communication strategies.
  • Tracking, measuring, and reporting on communication activities and outcomes to support continuous improvement.
     

Professional Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in a strategic communications role.
  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, or another related field.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate the ability to translate corporate vision into targeted communications strategies and deliver those initiatives.
  • Proven delivery of communications strategies in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines.
  • Team player with a focus on supporting colleagues, trying new approaches and delivering results.         
  • Strong interpersonal, project management and relationship-building skills, with an ability to work with various stakeholder teams in a fast-paced environment, across locations and operating companies.
  • A self-starter and problem-solver who works independently and as part of a geographically dispersed team.
  • Understanding of communications strategies; in emergency medical services and/or the healthcare industry.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal hours and open to occasional travel.


Salary Range: $70,000 to $85,000

 *

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.


While Medavie may use automated tools, including AI, to support application screening, candidates are expected to complete all recruitment interactions independently—without AI assistance—to ensure a fair and equitable process.
