Role Responsibilities

As a Senior Program Analyst, with the Traffic Safety Services Division’s Priority Initiatives and Integration Branch , you will:

• Lead program compliance activities for Alberta's traffic safety and transportation programs, including monitoring adherence to program requirements, and providing recommendations to senior leadership.
• Develop and implement processes to address program-related complaints, compliance issues, and continuous improvement opportunities.
• Coordinate and support cross-functional projects, ensuring initiatives are delivered on time and aligned with government and ministry priorities.
• Prepare briefing materials, reports, presentations, correspondence, and decision documents for senior executives and government officials.
• Conduct research, analysis, and reporting to support program planning, operational improvements, and executive decision-making.
• Assess requests for new transportation and enforcement technologies in collaboration with municipalities, and legal partners.
• Monitor emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in transportation and traffic safety programs across other jurisdictions.
• Support policy development, program evaluation, and strategic initiatives by analyzing impacts, risks, benefits, and implementation considerations.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to provide expert advice on program operations, policy, and compliance matters.
• Contribute to strategic and operational planning, priority setting, and continuous improvement initiatives within the branch.
• Act on behalf of the Manager, as required, and provide leadership on complex projects and program initiatives.

Qualifications

Required: 

• A degree in a related field such as law, justice studies, or a related field (such as criminal justice, police/peace office studies) plus 4 years progressively responsible related traffic safety or transportation experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 

• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

The ideal candidate brings a combination of experience in traffic safety and transportation programs, compliance, auditing, program administration, or law enforcement. Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:

• Managing or supporting a provincial or municipal traffic safety and transportation program.
• Conducting compliance reviews, audits, investigations, or operational assessments.
• Operating, reviewing, testing, or training users on traffic safety and transportation technologies.
• Analyzing program performance, compliance data, and operational trends to support decision-making.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of Alberta's traffic safety/transportation legislation, regulations, policies, and program requirements.
• Understanding of traffic safety/transportation technologies and their associated operational processes.
• Knowledge of transportation safety issues, traffic operations, and stakeholder impacts within Alberta.
• Understanding of program development, program evaluation, compliance monitoring, and government decision-making processes.
• Knowledge of quality assurance principles, auditing practices, and risk-based compliance approaches.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Copilot.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and provide sound recommendations.
• Experience conducting compliance reviews, audits, evaluations, or investigations and preparing findings and recommendations.
• Excellent written communication skills, including preparing briefing notes, reports, correspondence, presentations, and executive-level materials.
• Strong verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across organizations.
• Proven project management and coordination skills, including managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to analyze data and identify trends, risks, and opportunities to support program improvements.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to provide strategic advice to leadership on program, policy, compliance, and operational matters.

Additional Position Details:

• Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-time position.
• Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week.
• Location: Edmonton.
