Job description

Job Type: Full Time

Calian is proud to continue a long-standing contractual relationship with the Department of National Defence (DND) to provide healthcare services to the Canadian Armed Forces. Through the Health Care Provider Contract, Calian employs health care professionals across Canada who are integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of our military members.

Position Overview

Calian is currently seeking a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Health Services team at Canadian Forces Base Comox’s medical clinic. This role offers the rare combination of professional fulfillment and work-life balance in a stable, structured healthcare environment.

What makes this opportunity stand out:

  • Work-life balance built in – enjoy a consistent Monday to Friday schedule (7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), with no weekends, evenings, or shift work.
  • Predictable clinical pace – work in a well-organized primary care clinic without the high-pressure demands of hospital or emergency settings.
  • Competitive compensation – receive a comprehensive salary package that reflects your skills and contribution.
  • Paid leave and full benefits – enjoy paid vacation, health and dental coverage, and access to Calian’s full suite of employee benefits.
  • Time to provide quality care – spend meaningful time with patients, focusing on thorough assessments, preventative care, and health education—not just quick interventions.
  • Supportive, collaborative environment – be part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team that values respectful communication, shared goals, and professional integrity.
  • Purpose-driven practice – support the health and readiness of active-duty Canadian Armed Forces members in a role that makes a difference.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct triage assessments during walk-in hours, including patient histories, vital signs, physical exams, and vision testing.
  • Deliver direct nursing care using evidence-based practices (e.g., wound care, injections, IV therapy, respiratory support, specimen collection).
  • Administer medications in accordance with physician orders and within your scope of practice; monitor and document therapeutic responses.
  • Identify abnormal findings and escalate concerns to physicians or other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
  • Prepare patients for medical procedures and assist physicians during minor surgical interventions.
  • Provide patient education related to clinical procedures, pre- and post-operative care, and health promotion.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as responding to patient inquiries, preparing and returning medical files, and documenting care.
  • Maintain infection control protocols, clean clinical areas and equipment, and sterilize instruments.
  • Monitor and manage medical supply inventory, including ordering and replenishment.

Compensation Offered:

The hourly rate offered ranges between $50 to $55 per hour.

Qualifications

Recent Clinical Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year of full-time experience within the past 3 years providing direct nursing care and conducting patient assessments in a primary care or ambulatory care setting.
  • Experience working with adult populations across a range of health conditions is preferred.

Education & Licensure

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing Program.
  • Currently licensed and in good standing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the BC College of Nurses & Midwives

Certifications

  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers or CPR Level C certification.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be eligible for and able to obtain a Government of Canada Security Clearance (Enhanced Reliability).
Divulgation IA
