The Role

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Payments Technology in Canada and globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Coach and mentor the development team and stakeholders on Agile principles and Scrum practices to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Remove impediments and blockers that hinder the team’s progress, ensuring smooth delivery of sprint goals.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to maintain a well-groomed backlog and ensure clarity of user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Track and report team performance metrics (e.g., velocity, burndown charts) to provide transparency and support data-driven decisions.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Ensure adherence to Agile best practices and help the team adapt processes to optimize delivery.
  • Facilitate communication between the development team, stakeholders, and other teams to ensure alignment and resolve dependencies.
  • Support release planning and coordinate with other Scrum Masters for cross-team initiatives.
  • Advocate for quality and predictability by encouraging test automation, definition of done compliance, and technical excellence.
  • Champion CI/CD best practices and improve reliability monitoring.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What You'll Bring:

Education & Certifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or in an Agile delivery role.
  • Proven track record of facilitating Scrum ceremonies and coaching teams on Agile principles.

Certifications:

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) required.
  • Additional Agile certifications (e.g., SAFe, PMI-ACP) are a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Rally.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle and DevOps practices.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority and foster a collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Spanish speaking
  • Experience working in scaled Agile environments (SAFe, LeSS).
  • Knowledge of test automation and CI/CD practices.
