The Edmonton Youth Attendance Centre is seeking motivated, community-minded Correctional Peace Officers who are passionate about working directly with youth in a dynamic, supportive, and fast-paced environment.

Unlike traditional correctional settings, this unique role provides the opportunity to build positive relationships with young people while promoting accountability, skill development, and community safety.

As a Correctional Peace Officer at the Edmonton Youth Attendance Centre, you will:

• Supervise and support youth participating in court-ordered community programs.
• Conduct curfew compliance checks in the community.
• Supervise youth completing community work service placements.
• Support educational and recreational programming designed to promote positive change.
• Work collaboratively with probation officers and community partners.
• Encourage accountability, healthy decision-making, and pro-social behaviour while maintaining a safe environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and at least two years of related experience.
• Candidates must be physically capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of the position.
• Candidates must possess a minimum of a valid unrestricted Class 5 Canadian Driver’s License at the time of application (note: Probationary Class 5 - Graduated Driver's License (GDL) or Learners License are not accepted).
• A Criminal Record Check with Fingerprinting issued within the last six (6) months is a mandatory requirement of this recruitment process. Candidates must attend an accredited fingerprinting agency at their own expense and provide the required documentation to proceed in the recruitment process.
• A Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the last six (6) months.
• A satisfactory 5-year commercial driver’s abstract, not summary of driving record, issued within the last six (6) months by the appropriate provincial or territorial licensing authority is required at the time of application.
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level-C Certification including automated external defibrillator (AED).

Equivalency:

Directly related experience or education will be considered on the basis of:

• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education; or
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience

Assets

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Work experience with program delivery such as overseeing and supporting the delivery of youth programming and services.
• Experience in case management or program coordination preferred
• Work experience with youth offenders and/or high-risk youth experience.
• Work experience in group homes (residential facility that provides housing and support services for individuals with disabilities).
• Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Criminology, Psychology, Youth Services, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.

This posting will be used to fill up to two wage positions at the Edmonton Youth Attendance Centre (EYAC), which operates 7 days per week, 7:45am to midnight. Wage employees are paid for shifts worked rather than receiving a consistent salary.  Wage employees are able to identify their availability to work in line with other commitments. The hours of work may vary as this position is on-call/casual, primarily covering for vacations and absences. There is no guarantee of hours, as shifts will be assigned based on operational needs.

A clean driving abstract, reliable transportation, and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License is essential as you will be required to travel within the region.

Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening, including a criminal record check - fingerprinting, and a vulnerable sector check. Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
