Role Responsibilities

Senior Data Analyst
Reporting to the Manager, this position provides critical technical support to program and project management, strategic and operational planning, and stakeholder engagement coordination for effective policy development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The branch works closely with other teams in the division to ensure policy development reflects and supports Indigenous Health.

This position will be responsible for the following duties: 

• Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with key stakeholders, in particular, officials from within the branch, from other branches, divisions, Ministries, jurisdictions, and First Nations and Métis organizations and communities.
• Develop briefing materials and correspondence and provide advice and direction for the Minister and executive leadership about Indigenous based topics, issues, and concerns.
• Conduct research, monitor media, identify emerging trends on Indigenous health issues in Alberta and nationally.
• Provide secretariat support, policy advice, and prepare briefing materials to support the ministry's participation on a number of formal engagements.
• Develop, coordinate, and implement targeted strategies and policy options to address prominent health issues among Indigenous Albertans.
• Responsible for aiding in enhancing the Branch's project development, project management, and operational capacity to implement improving Indigenous engagements.

Senior Planning Advisor
Reporting to the Manager, the Senior Planning Advisor supports the Branch in strengthening its project development, project management, and operational capacity to advance Indigenous engagement initiatives. The role provides critical technical expertise in program and project management, strategic and operational planning, and stakeholder engagement coordination to support effective policy development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The Branch collaborates closely with other teams across the division to ensure programs and initiatives align with and advance Indigenous health priorities.

This position will be responsible for the following duties: 

• Develop, coordinate, and implement targeted strategies and policy options to address prominent health issues among Indigenous Albertans.
• Develop briefing materials and correspondence and provide advice and direction for the Minister and executive leadership about Indigenous based topics, issues, and concerns.
• Conduct research, monitor media, identify emerging trends on Indigenous health issues in Alberta and nationally.

Qualifications

Requirements for both positions:

• University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

• Strong planning, coordination, research and analytical skills, records management, and problem-solving skills.

 
Equivalencies: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: 

• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

The following knowledge or experiences are considered as assets:

• Experience in Indigenous Health.
• Knowledge about First Nation and Métis organizations, communities, governance, engagement, and culture.
• Understanding of the Indigenous policy priorities of the Government of Alberta and the policy priorities and dynamics within the Indigenous community (ie. First Nations and Metis Relations; and the Treaty Right to Health).
• Experience in strategic planning and implementation within government or a similar environment.
• Experience in project management.
• Experience preparing and providing written reports, analysis, briefings, letters, and presentations.
• Effective communications skills (written and oral) to collaborate effectively with colleagues and with internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaboration skills to successfully work in a cross-functional team environment and leadership skills.
• Organization and prioritization skills to balance multiple ongoing projects at one time and ability to meet tight timelines and cope with changing priorities.

Notes

Two full-time, permanent positions are available through this competition, with regular hours of 36.25 per week, Monday to Friday.

Both positions are based in Edmonton, Alberta.
