The Ministry Services Division provides enterprise-wide support services for the Department of Energy and Minerals and ensures alignment with and adherence to related Government of Alberta policies.

The Policy Coordination and Agency Governance team in the Business Services branch of the Ministry Services Division is responsible for the policy and legislative coordination process and agencies, boards, and commissions for the ministry. Policy Coordination and Agency Governance provides strategic leadership for the department on cross-government initiatives and priorities. Core to this function is providing leadership on high-profile, cross-boundary initiatives. The branch serves as a strategic hub for the department and acts as a proactive policy/planning arm, employing techniques such as strategic foresight, scenario planning, and social innovation to drive new ways of thinking and planning in today’s complex energy landscape.

Are you a highly organized and proactive professional who enjoys coordinating complex initiatives and keeping work moving forward across multiple teams? Do you excel at tracking priorities, managing competing deadlines, and bringing people together to solve problems? If so, you may be an excellent fit for a Planning Analyst position with the Policy Coordination and Agency Governance team.
Reporting to the Manager of Policy and Planning, you will play a central role in coordinating ministry priorities for Cabinet and legislative approvals and supporting the successful delivery of high-profile initiatives. Working closely with executive leadership, divisional teams, and policy coordination partners, you will help ensure projects remain on track, risks and issues are identified early, and key deliverables move efficiently through government processes.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys enabling the success of others. Rather than owning policy files or drafting substantive policy content, you will act as a trusted coordinator and facilitator, supporting the teams responsible for delivering projects by providing project oversight, coordination, planning, and problem-solving expertise.
The successful candidate is a highly organized and detail-oriented project coordinator who thrives in a dynamic environment. You are comfortable supporting initiatives led by others and take pride in keeping projects on track through effective planning, coordination, follow-up, and issue management. You are known for your ability to anticipate next steps, manage competing priorities, and helping to bring together the right people at the right time to achieve results.
