Executive Council works to ensure effective strategic planning and coordinated policy development and communications across government, engages Albertans and the broader global community, and promotes a vibrant and innovative public service.
In addition to policy, protocol, communications and Cabinet functions, Executive Council includes Communications and Public Engagement (CPE). CPE is the Government of Alberta's full-service communications, public relations and marketing department. Its mandate is to enhance communications between Albertans and the Government of Alberta.
CPE’s expert staff provide specialized services across the spectrum of communications including writing, social media, media relations, event coordination, issues management, crisis communications, digital communications, advertising, marketing, graphic design, public engagement and translation services.

Communications and Public Engagement is seeking an Events Specialist to lead the planning and execution of strategic government events that support the Premier, ministers, senior executives, and ministries across Alberta.
This is a unique opportunity to work on announcements and events that receive provincial and national attention while providing trusted advice, managing complex logistics, and ensuring every event is delivered with professionalism and excellence. The role offers meaningful work, significant responsibility, and the chance to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders across government.
Role Responsibilities
As an Events Specialist, you will provide senior-level event planning expertise and strategic counsel to ministries and internal clients. Working with considerable independence, you will oversee the development and execution of events from concept through completion while ensuring alignment with Government of Alberta priorities and standards.

Requirements:
University graduation and/or Diploma in a communications, public relations, or related discipline plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
• Experience planning and delivering complex events from initiation through execution.
• Strong project management experience.
• Experience coordinating events in a variety of venues and environments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
• Strong judgment, problem-solving, and issue management skills.
• Experience working with senior leaders, executives, or diverse stakeholder groups.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
Assets:
• Experience supporting media events, public announcements, or news conferences.
• Experience collaborating with audio-visual teams, production companies, or event vendors.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
