We are looking for a highly-skilled, experienced, and motivated software engineer to help us in our endeavour to make AWS the best place to operate relational databases. The RDS Performance Monitoring team owns features that help customers monitor and tune the performance of their Aurora and RDS databases, and surface recommendations to determine when and where to take action. This includes the integrations with Amazon CloudWatch Database Insights and AWS frontier agents. This is a rare chance for you to be a part of a highly visible team working at the intersection of database performance and AI, helping customers manage their growing fleet of Aurora and RDS databases.

Key job responsibilities
You will be responsible for developing a product that captures and stores performance telemetry from Aurora and RDS databases and surfaces them to our customers. You will also be responsible for developing and operating agentic AI solutions that use that telemetry to troubleshoot and mitigate performance-related issues. This product operates on millions of instances, and helps our customers monitor and tune the performance of their databases through timely and relevant metrics, as well as recommendations.
This is an area that requires solving the hardest engineering challenges in distributed systems at massive scale. As a customer-facing AWS service, our solutions have to be super solid, scalable, efficient, and highly fault tolerant. You will be responsible for all aspects of engineering, including development, testing and deployment of these services. AWS operates large-scale, mission critical workloads, so you need to be comfortable taking ownership of the operational excellence of your service.
Finally, you're excited by the opportunity to learn about and help solve our customers' challenges. In order to break new ground, we'll need to resolve ambiguity and innovate on behalf of our customers. You understand that being passionate about an idea is different than taking it personally, and you believe that debate makes strong ideas even stronger.
About the team
The RDS Performance Monitoring team builds and maintains performance monitoring and observability features for Amazon RDS and Aurora managed databases. Our mission is to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) for customers operating relational databases in the cloud.
We help customers visualize database load, diagnose performance issues, and optimize their database configurations through a suite of integrated tools.
Our features reduce mean-time-to-recovery (MTTR) when performance issues arise, provide actionable insights for query tuning and capacity planning, and relieve the operational overhead of building and maintaining custom database monitoring infrastructure. The result: lower costs across operations, infrastructure, and human resources.
