Location: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)

Language: Professional proficiency in English, written and spoken

Duration: 3-month Contract opportunity. Potential for extension to permanent if located in Ottawa

About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a well-established public accounting firm in Ottawa that is seeking a Senior Accountant, Assurance to step into a key role within a growing team. The team is looking for someone who can confidently take ownership of assurance files while supporting junior staff.

 

Reporting to a collaborative Manager and Partner, you will act as the bridge between leadership and three junior team members. This role is central to keeping engagements on track, maintaining high technical standards, and ensuring a balanced workflow within a supportive, mentorship-driven environment.

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll complete assurance and accounting engagements independently, including audits, reviews, and related documentation.
  • You’ll prepare and assemble working paper files and questionnaires using a paperless infrastructure.
  • You’ll delegate tasks to junior staff,  providing guidance where needed.
  • You’ll identify and resolve technical accounting issues to ensure files are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • You’ll contribute to personal and corporate tax filings during peak periods.
  • You’ll act as a key intermediary between the Manager and junior team, helping manage workflow and engagement progress.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of public accounting assurance experience, including independent file preparation.
  • CPA exams completed or in final stages, Canadian CPA path required.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, IFRS exposure is an asset.
  • Proficiency with CaseWare and TaxCycle or TaxPrep.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while supporting and mentoring junior staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
