About the Opportunity
Our public sector client in higher education is seeking a Senior PHP / Symfony Developer to support the modernization of a mission-critical platform used to coordinate academic accommodations for students. This role will directly impact student experience by improving exam scheduling accuracy, accessibility, and operational efficiency across the institution.
You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team including developers, business analysts, and accessibility stakeholders to deliver both technical upgrades and meaningful product enhancements. This is a hands-on role where your work will influence system reliability, security, and usability during high-impact academic periods.

Your Responsibilities
You’ll lead modernization efforts, upgrading PHP, Symfony, and system dependencies to supported versions
In this role, you’ll design and implement new scheduling and accommodation features with complex business logic
You’ll oversee CI/CD pipelines, secure deployments, and DevSecOps best practices
You’ll optimize system performance, database queries, and scalability for peak usage periods
You’ll collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions and maintain documentation
Skills and Qualifications
8+ years of experience developing and modernizing PHP applications;
5+ years in Symfony (including at least 3 successful framework/runtime upgrade projects).
Demonstrated experience operating secure, production web applications (hardening, patching, secrets management, SSO/OAuth/SAML integrations TBD).
Proven track record implementing scheduling/constraint logic, or other complex business rules
Strong experience with MySQL and performance tuning in production environments
Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and DevOps practices
Experience building RESTful APIs and data integration pipelines
Strong communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
