Our client, a nationally recognized membership-based organization, is seeking a strategic and hands-on finance leader to join their executive operations team. This role plays a critical part in overseeing financial stewardship, operational infrastructure, and administrative leadership for a complex national organization serving tens of thousands of members across Canada.
Working closely with elected leadership and senior stakeholders, you will guide financial planning, reporting, and organizational modernization while supporting a collaborative team environment. Your Responsibilities
- You’ll lead the development and oversight of the organization’s annual operating budget, providing financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
- In this role, you’ll oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements while ensuring strong internal controls and efficient financial processes.
- You’ll supervise and mentor a finance team of eight professionals, providing hands-on leadership across accounts payable, payroll oversight, and financial administration.
- You’ll manage cash flow, investments, and financial modelling to support organizational planning and long-term sustainability.
- You’ll collaborate with executive leadership and board committees, supporting audit processes and advising on financial and operational priorities.
- You’ll oversee key administrative and HR-related functions, including payroll oversight for a large unionized workforce, benefits administration, and facilities management.
- You’ll play a key role in system improvements and modernization initiatives, helping implement new tools and processes that enhance operational efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally within a complex or mission-driven organization
- CPA designation required
- Demonstrated experience preparing and managing large organizational budgets and financial reporting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, audit processes, and financial controls, ideally within a not-for-profit or membership-based environment
- Experience working with or reporting to a board or executive committee
- Experience overseeing payroll, HR administration, or finance operations within a unionized environment is considered an asset
- Exceptional bilingual communication skills in both English and French, with the ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholder groups
