Role Responsibilities

The Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction (MHA) is building Alberta’s new Compassionate Intervention (CI) program, supporting vulnerable youth and adults through a coordinated, recovery-oriented system of care. The Office of the Statutory Director (OSD) oversees CI applications, client pathways, navigation supports, and coordination with partners across the health, justice, and social sectors.

We are hiring two leadership roles that will help shape and operate this groundbreaking provincial program:

• Associate Director, Navigation & Intake
• Associate Director, Recovery Pathways
  
  

Both positions offer the opportunity to influence real system-level change, lead high impact teams, and contribute to an innovative, recovery focused service for Albertans.

Associate Director, Navigation & Intake – Key Responsibilities: 
As the Associate Director of Navigation & Intake, you will lead the OSD’s public-facing operations – the starting point for every client journey. Your team helps individuals, families, service providers, and referring parties understand the CI process and access appropriate supports.


In this role, you will:

• Guide the delivery of compassionate, trauma informed navigation services for people seeking help.
• Oversee the end-to-end intake and application process, ensuring applications are complete, timely, and compliant with legislation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure a health-focused, coordinated approach to apprehension and conveyance.
• Coordinate the collection of critical records and information from law enforcement, health professionals, and community agencies to support Commission hearings.
• Work directly with the Compassionate Intervention Commission and Recovery Alberta to advance applications and ensure applicants receive timely assessments.
• Coach, support, and develop intake staff, fostering a high performing team grounded in service excellence and legislative accountability.
• Develop, strengthen and refine operational procedures, privacy safe practices, and quality improvement measures across Navigation & Intake.
  
  

Associate Director, Recovery Pathways – Key Responsibilities: 

As the Associate Director of Recovery Pathways, you will oversee the client journey after an Assessment Order has been issued, ensuring individuals receive coordinated, recovery‑oriented supports that align with Commission decisions and timelines.


In this role, you will:

• Lead the delivery of client recovery pathways, ensuring Compassionate Intervention Orders are implemented smoothly with Recovery Alberta, community-based service providers, and other stakeholders.
• Develop and operationalize the new Intensive Case Management (ICM) model – including after‑care supports for clients transitioning out of the CI program.
• Build and enhance standardized case management procedures that support trauma‑informed and recovery‑oriented practice across Compassionate Intervention.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and training to staff working in a fast‑paced, time‑sensitive environment.
• Collaborate with system partners to address complex client needs and work towards removing barriers to coordinated service delivery.

Qualifications

University degree in Public Administration or a related field (Social Work, Psychology, Health Sciences, etc.), plus four (4) years of progressively responsible experience related to the role; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  
  

Required Experience: 

• Experience in human services, with a focus on addiction and mental health.
• Experience supporting complex case management.
• Experience in program implementation within a government or community-based setting.
• Experience interpreting and applying policy in a government or community-based setting.
• Experience in a leadership or supervisory role, including providing direction, coaching, and performance support to staff.
  
  

The following will be considered assets:

• Experience working with vulnerable populations. 
• Knowledge of trauma informed and recovery oriented practices in service delivery. 
• Lived experience, cultural knowledge, or professional experience working with Indigenous communities or organizations, with an understanding of governance, culture, history, community relationships, and protocols.

Notes

Hours of Work:

• 36.25 hours per week (Full-time) 
• 8:15am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
• This role requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
