Your Opportunity

Imagine being part of a dynamic team that designs innovative solutions for our diverse set of clients. The Transportation EIT will join a team of experienced highway designers to develop their skills in identifying deficiencies, evaluating improvement alternatives, and selecting preferred alternatives based on design guidelines. The ideal candidate has the ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation including effective coordination of internal and external constituents, demonstrated experience on various planning and engineering projects, effective meeting facilitation skills and strong knowledge of regulatory requirements.

Position will be full-time employment and workplace is in our Hamilton or London office.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Transportation Engineering Intern, you will be involved in the planning and design of major provincial highways, interchanges, and local municipal roads. You will be responsible for assisting our team in the following areas:

  • Assisting on a variety of tasks, including reviewing relevant policies, performing technical analysis, writing technical reports, and preparing presentations for clients.

  • Conducting site investigations to obtain an understanding of existing conditions, site constraints, and other challenges.

  • Developing alignments, profiles, typical cross-sections, and grading cross-sections

  • Roadside safety design and roadway drainage design

  • Quantity calculations and cost estimating

  • Preparing contract documents

  • Preparing and presenting information to the public

  • Project scheduling and coordinating multi-discipline teams

  • Assists with the preparation of proposals, project reporting and other marketing endeavors.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned

Your Capabilities and Credentials

This position is intended for a recent or upcoming graduate of a Civil Engineering program with an emphasis on Transportation Engineering. The ideal candidate will also have the following additional skills and qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of relevant roadway and highway design guides, such as the TAC Geometric Design Guide

  • Familiarity with highway and roadway design related software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and InRoads/OpenRoads

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Similar summer work-term or co-op experience would be considered as a definite asset for this position

  • Good technical writing skills; capable of creating reports, letters and specifications as well as oral communication.

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team

  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • Eligibility for registration as an EIT with APEGA

  • 0-2 years of relevant transportation engineering experience (co-op experience counts)

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$63,300.00 - $88,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
