About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established organization in the non-profit sector, is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll and Accounting Specialist to join their Corporate Services team. In this role, you will help ensure the smooth and accurate management of payroll, accounts payable, and key accounting processes that support the organization’s day-to-day operations.

Working closely with the Controller and a collaborative internal team, you will play an important role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting employees with payroll and benefits administration, and contributing to efficient month-end and year-end processes. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys understanding the “why” behind financial processes and is eager to grow their accounting expertise in a supportive environment.

Your Responsibilities
  • You’ll manage full-cycle payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now, ensuring bi-weekly payroll is accurate and compliant with relevant regulations.
  • You’ll prepare and reconcile annual payroll reporting including T4s, T4As, Records of Employment (ROEs), and other statutory filings to ensure compliance with federal and provincial requirements.
  • In this role, you’ll administer employee payroll-related programs including benefits enrollment, group RSP contributions, and payroll deductions.
  • You’ll process and code accounts payable transactions including invoices, expense reports, credit card reconciliations, and electronic payments.
  • You’ll support month-end activities by preparing journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations between subledgers and the general ledger.
  • You’ll maintain organized financial records and prepare supporting documentation for audits and reporting requirements.
  • You’ll collaborate with the finance team to identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field
  • 2 to 3 years of hands-on accounting, bookkeeping, or payroll experience
  • Experience processing payroll and preparing year-end payroll reporting such as T4s, T4As, or related filings
  • Familiarity with accounts payable processes including invoice coding, expense reporting, and electronic payments
  • Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting or ERP systems (ideally Microsoft Dynamics Business Central)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
