Security Guard – Government Site (Bilingual Veteran Opportunity)

Commissionaires Southern Alberta serves Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Suffield. We are currently seeking a Full-Time Security Guard to support a government site. This position requires professionalism, a strong customer-service mindset, and the ability to operate in a sensitive, structured environment.
Position Summary
The Security Guard will perform a combination of reception, access control, monitoring, and periodic patrolling duties. This is primarily a desk-based role, requiring strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a professional presence. The successful candidate will follow established procedures, respond appropriately to various situations, and provide exceptional service to all visitors and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide access control and front-desk reception for a government facility
- Verify identification and manage secure entry processes
- Conduct periodic patrols to ensure a safe and compliant environment
- Operate security control-room equipment and communication tools
- Complete detailed incident, shift, and activity reports
- Respond to both routine and emergency situations following established protocols
- Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining composure and professionalism
Requirements
- Must be an NMSO Veteran
- Must be bilingual (English & French) — verification conducted internally
- Must be able to obtain Secret Clearance
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Valid Alberta Security Licence
- Valid First Aid certification (Basic or Standard)
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to work in a primarily seated role with occasional patrolling
- Advanced computer skills
- NVCI (non-violent crisis intervention) or ability to deal with difficult people
- Comfortable operating computers and security equipment
Assets:
- Class 5 (Non‑GDL) driver’s licence and clean abstract
- Former RCMP/Military experience or military family member
Working Conditions
- Mix of seated desk work and light patrolling
- Monday to Friday, 0800-1630
- Receptionist duties
- Indoor environment with occasional movement through facility areas
- May involve climbing or descending stairs
