Senior Structural Technologist

The buildings that shape our communities may appear permanent, but we believe they should evolve with the people who use them. Our Buildings practice is driven by that belief—designing places that are resilient, responsive, and meaningful. From iconic structures to transformative community spaces, we bring vision and technical excellence together to create environments that move us forward.

Our Vancouver office is seeking a Senior Structural Technologist to join our dynamic Buildings team. This role is ideal for an experienced, self‑directed technologist who brings deep technical expertise, strong design sensibilities, and a collaborative mindset to complex structural projects across commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors.

Your Opportunity

As a senior member of our structural team, you will lead the production and coordination of structural design documentation from concept through construction. You will mentor junior staff, guide Revit model development, and contribute to technical decision‑making that shapes project outcomes. Your advanced understanding of structural systems, detailing, and digital design tools will support the delivery of high‑quality, integrated building solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and review of structural contract drawings, details, and technical documentation from conceptual design through tender and construction.

  • Oversee and manage structural Revit models, ensuring accuracy, coordination, and adherence to project standards.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to intermediate and junior technologists, supporting skill development and consistency in project delivery.

  • Develop and refine custom Revit families, AutoCAD blocks, and digital content to support project and team needs.

  • Coordinate structural design requirements with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external partners.

  • Conduct advanced quality assurance and quality control reviews on drawings and models.

  • Support structural engineers with design input, constructability considerations, and technical problem‑solving.

  • Lead the integration of new digital tools, workflows, and technologies, including computational design platforms such as Dynamo or Grasshopper.

  • Maintain awareness of emerging materials, construction methods, and drafting technologies to continuously elevate team capabilities.

  • Manage workload, prioritize tasks, and contribute to project planning to meet deadlines and deliverables.

Capabilities and Credentials

  • Extensive experience with current versions of Revit and AutoCAD, with expert‑level proficiency in structural modeling and detailing.

  • Strong knowledge of structural steel, concrete, and masonry systems, including advanced detailing practices.

  • Proven ability to lead drawing production, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage complex model environments.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and collaboratively.

  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring, coaching, and supporting technologists at various levels.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with computational design tools (Dynamo, Grasshopper) considered an asset.

  • Registration with ASTTBC (AScT or CTech) or eligibility for registration is an asset.

  • Autodesk Certified Professional for Revit (Structural) is an asset.

Education and Experience

  • Diploma from a recognized civil or structural engineering technology program.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience producing structural engineering drawings and models for a variety of building types.

  • Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary building projects with a high level of autonomy and responsibility.
