About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Building Operator to support a growing retail property portfolio across British Columbia. Reporting to the Property Manager, you will play a hands-on role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of building systems while maintaining strong relationships with tenants and contractors.
This opportunity sits within a publicly traded real estate investment trust that owns and manages a significant retail portfolio across Canada. Your Responsibilities
You’ll oversee the daily operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical building systems, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
In this role, you’ll manage preventative maintenance programs for HVAC, boilers, generators, life safety systems, and related equipment.
You’ll monitor building environmental systems and maintain detailed health and safety logs and maintenance records.
You’ll perform minor repairs and general maintenance tasks while coordinating contractors and sub-contractors as required.
You’ll respond to tenant requests and provide occasional after-hours support for urgent building issues or escalations, coordinating with the Property Manager as needed
You’ll support sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency measures across the portfolio.
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of related building operations experience in commercial or retail environments
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, life safety equipment, and general building maintenance procedures
Understanding of Health and Safety programs including WHMIS, Lockout and Tag out, and fall protection
Ability to read mechanical, architectural, electrical, and structural drawings
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the assigned region
Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills
Basic computer proficiency, understanding of Yardi or similar ERP is considered an asset
