About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading national retail organization, is seeking a Manager, Circular Materials Innovation to lead enterprise-wide initiatives that advance packaging transformation, circular economy partnerships, and waste diversion programs.
In this highly collaborative role, you will work alongside merchandising, product development, store operations, vendors, and industry partners to embed sustainability into everyday decision-making. Your work will directly influence environmental impact, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency, helping shape a more responsible and innovative retail landscape across Canada.

Your Responsibilities
- You’ll develop and execute strategies that advance packaging transformation and circular materials innovation across multiple business units.
- You’ll build business cases for pilot programs, securing cross-functional buy-in and aligning initiatives with enterprise priorities.
- You’ll oversee packaging and plastics data governance, ensuring accurate reporting, KPI tracking, and regulatory compliance.
- You’ll negotiate and manage third-party waste diversion and stewardship contracts, optimizing cost structures and service levels.
- You’ll collaborate with vendors and internal teams to design sustainable packaging solutions that balance cost, performance, and environmental impact.
- You’ll act as a key escalation point for operational waste management challenges, driving timely and effective resolutions.
Skills and Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive experience in sustainability, product stewardship, or retail operations
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Business, or a related field
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience managing third-party service providers and complex vendor relationships
- Solid understanding of regulatory compliance and reporting requirements
- Comfortable leading through ambiguity in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Working knowledge of budgeting or basic accounting principles
