Director, Financial Close & Technical Accounting
Location: Toronto or Mississauga, ON, or Montreal, QC, Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Language: Strong written and spoken English required, French proficiency required for Quebec-based candidates
Compensation: $150,000- $165,000 Base + Bonus

About the Opportunity
Our client, a large, complex organization within the technology and digital services space, is seeking a Director, Financial Close & Technical Accounting to join their evolving controllership function. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll play a critical part in shaping financial operations while supporting innovation across technical and business teams.
You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders and a small, high-performing team, owning day-to-day accounting execution while driving continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a technically strong finance leader who enjoys being close to the work, building teams, and modernizing processes in a fast-moving enterprise environment.

Your Responsibilities
You’ll lead the monthly financial close, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely results.
In this role, you’ll provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions and support financial reporting.
You’ll oversee balance sheet integrity, internal controls, and governance processes.
You’ll drive process improvement initiatives, including automation and AI-enabled enhancements.
You’ll coach and develop a team of finance professionals, setting clear expectations and performance standards.
You’ll partner with business, operations, and finance leaders to deliver insights that support strategic decisions.
Skills and Qualifications
10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including 5+ years in people leadership roles
CPA designation required
Strong technical accounting background with ownership of close in large enterprise environments
Experience in telecom, banking, technology, or Big 4 strongly preferred
Proven ability to lead hands-on while managing competing priorities
Advanced Excel skills and exposure to SAP or similar ERP systems
Clear, confident communication style with executive presence
