The Role 

 

As the Senior Manager, Data Product, you will play a critical, hands-on role in bringing our data products to life. Reporting to the Director, Data Product, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and successful delivery of a specific data product, from gathering requirements to overseeing development and launch. You will work embedded within a cross-functional team of developers, data modelers, delivery managers and analysts to translate the product vision into a detailed backlog and ensure features meet the needs of our data consumers.

  • Manage the Product Backlog: Own and prioritize the product backlog, creating detailed user stories, and defining acceptance criteria to guide the development team.
  • Execute and Iterate: Work directly with developer leads and architects to break down, scope, and estimate tasks. Participate actively in all agile ceremonies, including planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Gather Customer Requirements: Act as the primary point of contact for business users and data consumers to understand their needs, pain points, and requirements for the data product.
  • Validate Solutions: Engage in rapid prototyping and validation cycles with end-users to ensure the product is solving the right problems and delivering high-quality user experience.
  • Own Product Features: Be the subject matter expert for your data product's features. Show our internal customers how to drive value and use the product effectively.
  • Ensure Quality: Maintain high standards for quality, with meticulous attention to detail through the entire development lifecycle.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsible under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct. 

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? 

 

  • Product Ownership: Solid financial services industry experience (5+ years) in product innovation delivery, with good understanding of business drivers and levers
  • Technical Aptitude: Strong understanding of the data lifecycle, analytics, and software development processes. Experience with cloud data platforms, or data modeling is an asset
  • Business Acumen: Maintains an understanding of the financial services industry and trends in banking
  • Problem Solving Skills: Proven ability to analyze ambiguous and complex problems and translate them into clear, actionable development tasks.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical engineering teams and business stakeholders.
  • Agile Expertise: Deep experience with agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban), writing user stories, and managing backlogs in tools like Jira or Confluence.
  • Education: Business, Engineering or Computer Science degree with related experience in product innovation

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. 
  • The business environment is fast-paced, complex and demanding.  Heavy pressure also arises from the need to manage potential conflicting priorities constructively. 
  • The role may require long hours in preparation of documents and presentations.
