Our Winnipeg office is looking for Summer Students to join our Community Development Team for a 4-6-month work term from approximately May 2026 to October 2026.
As a Summer Student, you will be working on Residential Subdivision projects for our Field Services Team, as part of our Community Development Business Centre. The primary responsibilities for this role are varied; however generally involve the field observation, recording and reporting for infrastructure installations, including deep utilities and surface improvements. All projects are within the City of Winnipeg and in surrounding communities. You will be working with project teams, to coordinate daily onsite construction activities and to ensure that infrastructure projects are completed as per design and design specifications. You must be very attentive to detail, well organized, have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to prioritize multiple tasks as required. You must be committed to teamwork, as you may be working with multiple project teams on multiple infrastructure projects, in a very fast paced and dynamic work environment.
COMPENSATION: Starting @ $23.00/hr. approx., term May – October 2026 approx., 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 5 days per week (overtime maybe required)
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for providing onsite contract administration and inspection for residential subdivision projects
Provide grade checks with use of survey equipment
Assist with quantity takeoffs for progress payments
Observe, document and report project progress
Communicate with and direct Contractors
Coordination and scheduling of onsite Material Testing
Collect as-built information for use in preparing record drawings
Successful completion of 1st year Civil Technology or 1st year Civil Engineering as a minimum.
Physically able to work on construction sites in all types of weather conditions
Proven ability to learn and take direction
Valid driver’s license and vehicle required
Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings would be an asset
