Position Summary

The Photo Radar Operators are peace officers who work within the Specialized Traffic Enforcement Unit of Calgary Police Service and are responsible for conducting enforcement at designated sites assigned to them through the Directed Deployment Program and set up their units in accordance with their training. They are responsible to make accurate notes of violations during their shifts and make necessary camera adjustments to ensure continued quality of violation images while in operation. The Operators are often called upon to present their notes in court and must be comfortable speaking in a public setting in front of a Judge.

Skills, Abilities & Educational Requirements:

  • Must provide proof of the successful completion of a minimum of High School, IQAS, or GED (Post-secondary is not accepted by the Solicitor General when applying for Peace Officer status.)
  • Advanced computer skills most notably Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) are essential
  • Strong attention to detail, data entry and report writing skills
  • Successfully complete a CPS enhanced security clearance background check
  • Personable team player with a proven ability to operate independently in a wide variety of dynamic and challenging situations
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated with strong organizational, time management and priority setting skills
  • High level of English fluency for speaking, reading and writing
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment with minimum supervision
  • Proven ability to make informed decisions without unnecessary delay
  • Class Five Driver’s License (no GDL) and a clean drivers abstract
  • Willing to work a variety of shifts including over-nights and weekends.
  • Former RCMP/Military experience and Military family member (Strong Asset)
  • Education and/or background in Law Enforcement (Strong Asset)

Working Conditions:

  • May be exposed to prolonged periods of walking, sitting or standing.
  • May be employed indoors or outdoors in periods of inclement weather.
