Senior Engineer - Cyber Security Systems | Richmond (BC) Office
We are seeking a Senior Member of Technical Staff (MTS) – Systems Security to join our Geointelligence Engineering team based in Richmond.
In this role, you will be responsible for security elements across Earth observation space missions, large defence programs, and a diverse portfolio of internally developed products ranging from cloud-based geointelligence platforms to advanced laser warning and countermeasure systems.
You will ensure expert security support is provided to multiple product and project teams to meet defined security objectives and comply with applicable policies, procedures, and standards. You will define target security postures and security requirements throughout project definition and development phases and provide insight into vulnerability management and response within complex information systems.
Excellent internal and external communication skills are essential, as you will work closely with customers, technical teams, and stakeholders to support the delivery of robust, secure, and cost-effective systems.
The successful candidate will bring a combination of deep security expertise, systems engineering experience, and prior involvement in defence-related contracts.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Member of Technical Staff (MTS) – Systems Security, responsibilities may include:
Providing security-focused input on system architectures, operational concepts, and system enhancements
Deriving security requirements, designs, solutions, and mechanisms in response to customer requirements, standards, and internal policies
Developing and maintaining security-related system artefacts, including specifications, profiles, test documentation, vulnerability assessments, threat models, and customer reports, from system to major subsystem levels
Overseeing verification and validation of security-related aspects of systems and products
Performing threat assessments and threat modelling activities and advising on appropriate risk mitigation actions
Reviewing vulnerability and compliance scan results and prioritizing remediation actions
Supporting engineering program delivery through the development of security plans and budgets
Coaching and mentoring junior team members
Mandatory Experience and Skills
Degree or diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience in Systems Security
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification
10+ years of experience in engineering or information systems environments
Understanding of DND project delivery and execution processes from requirements through commissioning and support
Experience with NIST SP 800-series standards (e.g., 53, 160), ISO/IEC standards, DISA STIGs, CIS, and SANS frameworks
Familiarity with system delivery and accreditation against CSE ITS guidance (e.g., ITSG-11/22/33/38)
Experience working closely with systems engineers and customer representatives
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and project execution capabilities
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience with accreditation, risk assessment, and governance of classified systems for DND, including cross-domain solutions and multi-domain interoperability
Experience designing, deploying, or operating Security Operations Centres (SOC), including SIEM, IDS, IPS, and machine learning-based security technologies
Hands-on experience with enterprise network software, SIEM tools, vulnerability assessment platforms, virtualization technologies, continuous monitoring, and data loss prevention tools
Familiarity with:
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning
Open Source Security Testing Methodology Manual (OSSTMM)
OWASP references and SQL vulnerabilities
Requirements management tools such as DOORS
