About the Opportunity

Join a long-standing, family-owned business in the Ottawa area that has been a trusted name in the industry for several decades. As a Senior Accountant, you’ll play a pivotal role supporting the Controller across a diverse portfolio of eight companies, from retail and real estate to custom homes and specialty solutions. You’ll be part of a collaborative, team-oriented finance group, ensuring financial integrity and providing insights that directly impact decision-making across multiple businesses.

In this role, you’ll be exposed to full-cycle accounting responsibilities, from journal entries to variance analysis, and work alongside experienced finance professionals in a hands-on environment. This is not just about processing numbers; it’s about understanding the story behind them, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to a culture where every team member’s contribution is valued.

What’s In It for You

Enjoy a supportive and inclusive workplace where stability, growth, and work-life balance are prioritized. You’ll benefit from competitive compensation, fantastic group benefits including vision and orthodontics coverage, and opportunities for professional growth across multiple industries. Experience a workplace that values collaboration, celebrates achievements, and offers fun events.

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll maintain accurate financial records, reconcile accounts, and prepare financial statements for multiple companies.
  • In this role, you’ll oversee bank reconciliations, fixed asset schedules, and balance sheet analyses.
  • You’ll support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes, providing insights that inform business decisions.
  • You’ll collaborate with AP, AR, and other departments to ensure financial data is complete and accurate.
  • You’ll mentor and guide junior team members, helping them grow their skills and confidence.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in retail or multi-company environments.
  • Proficient in Excel and comfortable creating financial statements from trial balances, not just system outputs.
  • Hands-on experience with inventory and fixed assets management, including depreciation schedules.
  • Strong analytical skills, able to perform variance analysis and tell the story behind the numbers.
  • Excellent communication and mentorship abilities, with a professional and approachable demeanor.
  • Experience with Sage 300 is an asset, but training can be provided.

Note from the Hiring Manager

“We’re looking for someone who can dive in, take ownership of the numbers, and work collaboratively with our team. You’ll be valued for your expertise and your ability to help develop others, all while contributing to a company that cares about its people.”
