As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks we are responsible for fostering Alberta’s environmentally responsible forest management practices, including management of wildfires. We preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans. As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manages public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.

By modernizing IT systems, we’re enhancing user experience, reducing administrative burden, and ensuring long-term program sustainability.
As our Business Technology Specialist, you’ll report directly to the Director of Business Technology and Modernization. In this pivotal role, you will provide leadership and support the strategic direction on IT innovation and systems modernization initiatives within the Forestry Division. You will ensure the seamless integration of operational services across programs, while assessing and refining delivery processes to improve efficiency and outcomes. This position also involves setting clear goals and product strategies aligned with divisional objectives.
We’re seeking an innovative leader with technical expertise, business analysis experience, and change management skills. The successful candidate will be passionate about advancing IT modernization strategies and digital roadmaps, maximizing the value of digital products and services. Strong analytical and communication abilities are essential, along with the ability to present accurate, high-quality data and collaborate effectively with partners across the Division and Ministries.

Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree in environmental sciences or related field and 4 years of wildfire or forestry business knowledge experience or a 2 year diploma in environmental sciences and 6 years of wildfire or forestry business knowledge experience.
Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

This is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday.
