The Team

The Director of Tax Operations Technology will lead and oversee Tax Operations Technology within Capital Markets Technology globally ensuring business strategies, targets and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

The Role

 

The Director, Tax Operations Technology, as the technology owner, will be responsible for the strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of the Global Tax Technology team in Toronto with a focus on modernization across the portfolio. The role includes developing and implementing the appropriate Tax Operations technology strategy, which mitigates operational risk and delivers value, in collaboration with Global Wholesale Operations stakeholders and regional Technology teams. This individual will ensure business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing internal standards, policies and procedures as well as regulations in Canada (CRA), the U.S. (IRS etc.) and abroad.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Technology Strategy: Develop and execute a roadmap for tax technology aligned with the bank’s digital transformation goals.
  • System Implementation: Oversee deployment of tax engines, automation tools, and integration with Books and financial systems.
  • Data Management: Ensure accurate tax data collection, storage, and reporting across global jurisdictions.
  • Compliance & Risk: Implement controls to meet regulatory requirements (e.g., FATCA, CRS, BEPS etc.).
  • Innovation: Drive automation, AI, and analytics for tax forecasting and scenario modeling.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with Tax, Finance, IT, and Risk teams globally.
  • Implement new practices and frameworks such as Agile, Lean, Design thinking, and DevOps
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage
  • broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and
  • motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, currently 5-7 staff
  • Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite throughout their teams.
  • Communicates vision/values/business strategy and manages succession and development planning for the team.
  • Aggregating capacity and demand of the work portfolio
  • Ensures the timely development and implementation of multiple applications and IT solutions – involving multiple systems, multiple dependencies and multiple stakeholders/business partners – where solutions cross business lines and customer segments, globally
  • Plans and directs application/technology projects and ongoing support, and leads their teams of Project Managers, Developers and Business Analysts.
  • Effective communication skills to executive leadership, business leaders and staff
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field; CPA or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in tax technology or related roles, with at least 5 years in leadership positions.
  • Proven track record of implementing tax technology solutions in financial institutions.
  • Strong knowledge of global tax regulations and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools and emerging technologies (AI, RPA).
