Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, uses the power of baseball to create positive social change in communities across Canada. We are currently looking for passionate and dedicated staff to deliver our RBI Spring program in Toronto.

 

RBI Spring is an afterschool program implemented in partnership with select Toronto District School Board (TDSB) schools designed to provide accessible and inclusive baseball/softball programming to students from grades 4-8. Beginning in April, the program runs afterschool for 11 weeks and concludes with an end of year final tournament in mid June. Students participate in weekly practices and organized games that are led by a trained Jays Care coach. RBI Spring provides an opportunity for students to represent their school, build relationships with their peers, learn valuable life-skills and develop a passion for baseball.

 

REPORTS TO: Program Specialist, RBI Spring

OPEN POSITIONS: 70

CONTRACT DURATION: March 14 – June 18, 2026

  • 6 or 12 hours per week, 2 or 4 weekday afternoons per week
  • Shifts are 3 hours each on Monday/Wednesday and/or Tuesday/Thursday afternoons between the range of 2:00 – 6:00PM.
  • Mandatory Event & Training Days:
    • Coach Training: March 14, March 15, March 21, April 24
    • Final Tournament: June 16, June 17, June 18

WORK LOCATION: Schools across Toronto (Etobicoke, York, North York and Scarborough areas), coaches are responsible for their own travel arrangements.

COMPENSATION: $20.50/hour

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, January 23rd, 2026. Applications will be processed and reviewed as they are received and interviews will be offered on a rolling basis. Candidates are required to attend an in-person circuit interview on January 16, January 30 or February 6.

 

RBI Spring Baseball Coaches will:

  • Attend all training, practices, games and final tournaments
  • Prepare weekly practice plans and game lineups that focus on promoting belonging and connection, are inclusive and use variations to keep all athletes included
  • Lead dynamic baseball/softball activities that are wildly fun and engaging that support the growth and development of athletes
  • Ensure that the field and/or practice space is physically and emotionally safe
  • Go above and beyond to create opportunities for all students to participate
  • Act as the liaison between Jays Care and the school in a highly professional manner
  • Support school staff in adhering to school policy and procedures  
  • Complete any programming administrative tasks as required

 

A great candidate will have:

  • Hands-on experience playing and/or coaching baseball or softball, with a solid understanding of game rules and strategies.
  • Ability to confidently demonstrate and teach core baseball skills, including pitching, hitting, fielding, catching, and throwing, in an engaging and accessible way.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of baseball equipment (gloves, bats, bases, helmets, protective gear) and the ability to ensure proper use, care, and maintenance.
  • Experience working with children and youth in a baseball or sports setting, fostering skill progression and teamwork.
  • High energy and passion for baseball, combined with a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for all participants.
  • Positive attitude and strong motivational skills, keeping children engaged and excited about learning the game.
  • Ability to travel reliably to assigned schools or program locations.
  • Current Standard First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification prior to the start of the contract.
