We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Community Support Worker to assist with food bank operations, supporting families and individuals in need. This position involves both administrative and hands-on work, including data entry, inventory control, and direct community engagement. You’ll work as part of a small team, helping ensure that essential food and clothing items are distributed efficiently and respectfully to vulnerable populations.
Location: Downtown, Ottawa
Type: Contract (until November 28, with possibility of extension)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (On-site)
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the distribution of food and clothing items to clients.
- Perform inventory management and quality control for donations, including organizing shelves, storage, and industrial fridges/freezers.
- Move and lift boxes (up to 30–40 lbs) and handle carts, bins, and trays with wheels.
- Perform data entry and record keeping to track donations and client information.
- Verify client information and provide excellent customer service support.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Support food serving activities on-site (Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
- Collaborate with the team to ensure smooth operations and a positive environment for clients and volunteers.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in community support, nonprofit, or social services.
- Strong administrative and data entry skills.
- Bilingual (English/French) preferred.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to changing needs.
- Compassionate, patient, and able to interact respectfully with vulnerable populations.
- Must provide a criminal background check.
