About the role
We're supporting our Ottawa-based client in hiring an Accounting Analyst to strengthen month-end close, support recurring reporting, and improve financial controls. This is an mid level role ideal for someone with 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience who wants increased ownership over reconciliations, journal entries, and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end close tasks for assigned ledgers: prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications.

  • Own account reconciliations (bank, A/P, A/R, intercompany, payroll) and investigate variances.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and supporting schedules for management and auditors.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities: compile historical data, analyze trends, and explain variances.

  • Maintain and improve internal controls and SOX documentation related to assigned processes.

  • Support external and internal audit requests by providing schedules, explanations, and documentation.

  • Assist with fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (payroll, operations, procurement) to resolve accounting issues and streamline processes.

  • Participate in process improvement projects and system enhancements (ERP/data extraction, reporting automation).

  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support for special projects.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience in public practice or corporate finance.

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • CPA designation preferred or actively working toward CPA.

  • Strong working knowledge of month-end close processes, reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.

  • Hands-on experience with an ERP system (e.g., Dynamics, NetSuite, Oracle, SAP) and Excel at an advanced level (pivot tables, lookup functions).

  • Eligible to work in Canada and able to commute to downtown Ottawa three days per week.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting audits and SOX/controls frameworks.

  • Exposure to financial reporting standards (IFRS or ASPE).

  • Experience with reporting tools or BI platforms (Power BI, Tableau).
