Your Opportunity
Reporting to the rail and transit systems lead, the primary focus of the role will be responsible for coordinating multi-disciplinary teams responsible for supporting the delivery of complex projects on time, within budget and with quality results. The candidate will plan, organize, monitor, and oversee one or more projects in conjunction with PMO. Projects may include technical advisory, system design, and construction administration. Types of projects may include subway, light rail, commuter rail or freight rail infrastructure, new or expanded and other associated transit works.
Your Key Responsibilities
Coordinate amount the leads in multi-disciplinary projects including Transit Systems Engineers, Systems Designers, Inspectors, constructors and other staff as required.
Help the project manager and discipline leads through the successful completion of medium to large complex projects.
Coordinate to collect project status from discipline leads including review comments and resolutions.
Support PMO to prepare project work plans and schedules and obtain management and client approval.
Maintain regular communication with clients regarding project status and project quality, and proactively resolve issues.
Manage relationships with project stakeholders, including internal and external clients and vendors, regulatory authorities and technical agencies, and the public.
Keeping the stakeholders informed of progress and issues in order to manage expectations on all project requirements and deliverables and meet the project schedule.
Proactively track, analyze and report on actual performance against the plan, and prepare reporting, both for clients and as part of internal reporting processes; and
Other duties as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Working knowledge of Signaling, Train Control, Traction Power Substation, OCS, SCADA, CCTV, FO, WiFi, Radio and familiar with IEEE, AREMA, CROR, FRA, CENELEC and MIL.
Working knowledge of signaling and train control products from major suppliers (e.g. Thales, Alstom, Siemens, Bombardier etc.)
Familiar with railway operators and their procedures such as Metrolinx, CN/CP, VIA, TTC, Edmonton Transit and Calgary Transit.
Familiarity with all commonly used project delivery models such as DBB, DB, P3 and AFP.
Experience in project planning, risk management, cost estimation, and schedule management, and methods of analyzing and reporting project performance on financial and other KPIs.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including experience making presentations to project management, clients and public representative.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience and competence in clear, concise and tactful communication with senior management, clients, peers and staff.
Adaptability and flexibility including ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change.
Strategic and critical thinking and decision-making skills along with negotiating skills within a context of political sensitivity and conflicting interests; and
Proficiency with project management software tools.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field & Licensed Professional Engineer.
10 years’ systems coordination and project management experience in rail and transit project; concurrently managing issues, scope and quality while supporting projects to successful completion within the cost and time requirements.
Most recently 5 years of experience with complex transit systems infrastructure, including light rail, subway and commuter, power facilities, passenger stations and associated infrastructure.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather
