We are currently seeking an Intern (Electrical Technologist or Electrical Engineering) to join our Distribution Team. The office locations available are London, Markham or Waterloo.

The primary role of this position will be to support designers, Project leads & Team Leads working on Distribution projects in the Power Distribution sector. Assignments will fall within the domains of electrical engineering as they pertain to electrical distribution engineering projects that Stantec is currently engaged in across Canada.

Your Key Responsibilities

This position will require supporting with the following tasks in an entry-level capacity:

  • Assisting the distribution team with engineering and design services for power distribution line projects at various stages (from conceptual design to construction).

  • Performing design and drafting tasks following industry codes and client standards for overhead distribution.

  • Modeling and analysis of distribution lines and structures based on SpidaCAL.

  • Supporting the project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.

  • Assisting in the development of designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.

  • Performing site visits as required.

  • Attending project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.

  • Participating in value engineering and basic cost estimating.

  • Implementing sustainable design principles.

  • Supporting distribution teams on overhead lines projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

The candidate must have a willingness and interest to learn about:

  • AutoCAD experience is an asset.

  • MicroStation experience is an asset.

  • PLS-CADD line modelling software and principles.

  • Photometric software Agi32 and RP-8.

  • Canadian Standard Association (CSA) such as CSA C22.3 No.1:20 – Overhead Systems, CSA C22.3 No.7:20 - Underground Systems, practices, and applicable legislation.

  • Design drawings for distribution projects.

  • Project management systems.

The ideal candidate shall have and/or demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and take direction as required.

  • Technical proficiency, good understanding of engineering fundamentals and process improvement skills.

  • Initiative, flexibility, and adaptability.

  • Experience/familiarity with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Education and Experience

To qualify for this position, the candidate must be:

  • Enrolled in a recognized university or technical college in electrical engineering disciplines.

  • Eligible for a work term from September 2025-April 2026 (8 months) as a minimum.
