Your Opportunity
Stantec's Geotechnical and Materials Engineering Team is looking for a Senior Geotechnical and Materials Technician to join our team in Saint John, NB. Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, you will work closely with an experienced team of engineers and technicians to become part of our dynamic team and perform laboratory and field-testing services. Our team provides conventional and advanced field laboratory testing services for soil, rock, aggregate, and concrete.
Your Key Responsibilities
Conduct various geotechnical construction inspections such as footing and foundation level inspections, drill investigations, test pit inspections, reinforcing steel inspections, proof roll and subgrade inspections, and attend regular construction meetings
Complete geotechnical field-testing activities, including caisson installation, piling supervision, rock anchor testing, observation of deep foundation installation, and piezometer installation and measurements
Conduct construction quality control/quality assurance tasks and prepare quality documents
Mentor, coach, and train junior technical staff as required
Assist with field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt
Promote safe work practices for laboratory and field activities
Operate computerized and digital testing equipment
Concrete field testing
Compaction monitoring
Asphalt inspection
Inspect contractor activity
Interact with Materials and Geotechnical Engineers routinely
Ensure laboratory testing equipment is accurate, in good condition, and meets the calibration requirements according to the manufacturer’s recommendations
Continue to improve your technical abilities and certifications within the framework of laboratory areas of practice
Other general field and lab-related duties
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Current registration with New Brunswick and holds designation as C.Tech., C.E.T., or P.Tech.(Eng.)
Experience with laboratory soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures
Experience managing materials testing and construction field review projects
CCIL Certification for soils, concrete, and asphalt would be an asset
Working knowledge of soil sampling techniques and construction methodology
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities
Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently
Energetic team player with a commitment to superior client service
Demonstrate initiative and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Able and willing to work away from home
Committed to upholding and demonstrating a strong focus on Stantec's health and safety culture
Capable of repeatedly lifting 25kg test samples
Ability to work overtime in peak periods
Able to traverse uneven ground will be required
Valid Driver's License is required
Education and Experience
Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience Possess or be able to obtain a valid New Brunswick driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather. Some time will be spent in a typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods.
