Our Environmental Services Group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in atmospheric sciences, acoustics and vibration, marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators. Our environmental services practitioners offer a full suite of services including permitting, monitoring, modeling, planning, policy studies, design, and control.

We are seeking an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individual with a keen interest in hazard and risk assessment to join our team and advance their career. Our Hazard and Risk Assessment Specialists provide specialized services to a wide variety of sectors including industry, government, architecture, transportation, and buildings. In addition to hazard and risk related work, our Atmospheric Science group provides services such as air quality impact assessments, air dispersion modelling, air emission inventories, ambient air quality data analysis, air monitoring network design, and noise assessment.

Responsibilities

Stantec’s Environmental Services Practice is currently seeking a full-time position for a Junior Air Quality Engineer. This opportunity is in our Calgary’s 25th Street office. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Conduct hazard identification for a wide range of facilities/processes and for various jurisdictions, with a primary focus in western North America.

• Complete hazard and risk assessments, including hazardous source characterization, consequence modelling, reporting, and mitigation recommendations. Consequence modelling includes dispersion, fire jet/fireball/pool fire, vapour cloud explosion and vessel ruptures.

• Assist other team members in the preparation of reports, proposals, marketing materials, and/or technical papers.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in mechanical or chemical engineering.

• 1-3 years consulting experience in environmental services, atmospheric science services, or hazard and risk identification and assessment

• Demonstrate strength in verbal and written communication

• Strong team player and ability to manage multiple projects

• Strong analytical skills and experience with hazard and risk assessment modelling software (i.e., SLAB, PHAST) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is an asset

• Knowledge in industrial process and hazard and risk assessment

• Understanding of provincial and federal regulatory requirements and guidelines

• Strong programming skills is an asset

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
