Your Opportunity

As an Azure Database Administrator on our Global Database Services team, this position will have a primarily technical focus. Under the general direction of Global Database Services Leadership, this role will plan and execute complex technical tasks as well as provide technical leadership and guidance to team members.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide and influence architectural direction on the database best practices in Azure.

  • Deploy, configure and maintain Azure SQL Databases and services.

  • Monitor database growth and performance.

  • Problem management [i.e., problem identification, management, and resolution]

  • Maintain and implement database backup and disaster recovery in Azure.

  • Automate deployment using Azure CLI, Terraform.

  • Migrate workloads and SQL Server databases to Azure.

  • Implement and manage Virtual Cloud Networks.

  • Good understanding of security concepts and implementing best security practices.

  • Support and enhance Stantec's High Availability Architecture and disaster recovery operations.

  • Database Backup and Recovery.

  • Planning, Testing, and Performing software upgrades.

  • Assist with database loads and data conversion activities.

  • Clone and support different application environments.

  • Service requests resolution.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience working with SQL Server, Oracle, Azure SQL Databases or similar cloud platforms.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working as in Database Administrator supporting a Windows/LINUX/UNIX environment.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a cloud environment.

  • Proficient in writing code in Microsoft T-SQL, SQL, and PL/SQL.

  • Experience creating and configuring resources using the Azure portal.

  • Knowledge in Azure related to database backups, recovery, high availability and disaster recovery solutions.

  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Sound understanding of hybrid cloud architecture.

  • Experience in PowerShell, Azure CLI, Terraform, Ansible and Python programming to automate builds.

  • Experience in using Foglight for managing environments.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; this position requires a high degree of involvement in leading meetings and regularly communicating with various stakeholders.

  • Please note that this position will require after-hours.

  • We are looking for team players who can work in a very dynamic and challenging environment.

  • The Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administrator certification will be a valuable asset.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM or related experience.

Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
