Our client, a leading Intellectual Property law firm in Ottawa, is seeking a Legal Assistant/Law Clerk to join their team. This role will provide high-level support to legal professionals with busy practices, ensuring seamless operations and client service.
This role will be on-site for the first 3–6 months, after which it will transition to a hybrid model (3 days in office, 2 days work from home).
Responsibilities:
- Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence and legal documentation with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Provide administrative support during court proceedings, client meetings, and follow-up activities.
- Manage internal and external communications, including mail, email, telephone, and fax.
- Maintain and organize client files, including preparing files for closure and storage.
- Prepare and process accounts, invoices, and related documentation.
- Coordinate meetings, conference calls, and agendas.
- Arrange and book examinations for discovery and mediations, including coordination with Court Reporters and Mediators.
- File documents with the Federal Court and the Trademarks Office.
- Prepare courier packages and handle incoming/outgoing mail.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-3+ years of experience as a legal assistant or law clerk, ideally in an IP or litigation setting.
- Post-secondary education in Office Administration (Legal), Law Clerk, or a related program preferred.
- Proficient using MS Office Suite; knowledge of NetDocuments is an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and discretion when handling confidential information.
