At the Department of Finance and Treasury Board we strive to provide financial leadership, analysis and policies that strengthen Nova Scotia. As stewards of the province’s financial affairs, we deliver a wide range of corporate fiscal and management services – including the preparation of the provincial budget – as well as ensure government plans are coordinated and fiscally responsible.
As the Corporate Finance Analyst you will provide sound, timely financial advice to the Department of Finance and Treasury Board across a number of corporate responsibilities and support functions within Treasury Board Office.
The Financial Analyst will provide a critical support role in primary functions within the Treasury Board Office (TBO) including financial analysis, costing, budgetary preparation, forecast monitoring, public accounts preparation, and mitigation analysis for senior management that is key for Executive Council / Treasury Policy Board decision making. The Analyst leads government employee compensation provisioning functions, vacancy savings and mitigation analysis for key decisions for government fiscal planning. The role oversees and monitors the number of Full Time Equivalent (FTE)’s province-wide and wage settlement funding requirements critical to accurate fiscal planning. The position is also accountable for the year-end processes for the office and leads the coordination of the Supplementary Estimates Detail document for Budget.
You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior management in the client departments, departmental managers with financial reporting responsibilities, and representatives of Finance and Treasury Board and the Office of the Auditor General.
As a Corporate Financial Advisor, you will report to the Executive Director, Treasury Board Office.
Responsibilities include:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Commerce plus several years of progressive experience in financial management. An acceptable combination of education and experience will be considered.
A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA/CMA/CGA) would be a asset.

As the ideal candidate, you have solid experience in budget development and business planning, forecasting; the ability to provide sound strategic financial and budgetary advice to senior members of the department; experience in providing sound financial advice to various stakeholder groups; effective leadership skills and experience creating, developing, and working in a team environment and be well organized to meet a demanding workload.
You have experience dealing with complex, contentious and sensitive issues in a public forum; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong analytical skills, tact and diplomacy; capacity for decisive action and the ability to influence others; the ability to manage multiple demands and interruptions in a challenging, deadline driven environment; as well as working both independently and collaboratively with all levels of management, staff, and other stakeholder groups.
Leadership competencies required at this level of work are: Analytical Thinking, Strategic Orientation, Innovativeness, Adaptability and Flexibility, Initiative, Effective Interactive Communication, Partnering and Relationship Building, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

Pay Grade: EC 12
Salary Range: $3,760.89 - $4,701.11 Bi-Weekly
