Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director leads the development and implementation of policies, strategies, and initiatives that support the effective integration of newcomers into Alberta's economy. The role involves enhancing collaboration within the branch, across other divisions, and with all levels of government, including relevant ministries within the federal government. This role also regularly collaborates with newcomer organizations to assess needs and explore opportunities for enhancing support for newcomers' settlement and integration into Alberta’s economy.

The Director leads the implementation and maintenance of a significant grant portfolio that contributes to the success of newcomers to Alberta. This role also leads the evaluation of nominations for the Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards, that celebrate the outstanding achievements of newcomers in Alberta.

The primary responsibilities of the Director, Settlement and Integration include:

• Lead and direct grant programs and projects to ensure they are managed in alignment with best grant and project management practices, conform to department and government policies and standards, and align with strategic business outcomes.
• Lead the identification, research and analysis of emerging issues and trends to ensure responsiveness to emerging newcomer needs.
• Lead the operationalization and continuous improvement of the Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards (AIIA).
• Provide strategic leadership, advice, analysis, and comprehensive guidance.
• Develop unit staff through high quality leadership and mentorship.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field, plus 7 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
 
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  
  

The position requires the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Strong leadership, interpersonal, and team building skills.
• Strong project management and planning skills including goal setting, progress reporting, establishing work-plans and evaluating performance.
• Significant related experience in issues management and resolution, grant management, policy, legislation, and regulation development, and change management.
• Experience in providing advice to executive management, senior officials, and stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with demonstrated success in managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.

Assets:

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across ministries, agencies, and external partners.
• Proven leadership skills in managing diverse teams, building organizational capacity, and fostering inclusive and collaborative workplaces.
• Experience in identifying and understanding broad trends, anticipating needs, and addressing complex and contentious issues.
• Experience with Government of Alberta grant management processes, and associated budgeting and planning.
• Experience and knowledge of policy analysis frameworks necessary for the development of policy recommendations, action plans, and implementation strategies.

Notes

We are currently hiring for one full time, permanent position. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (36.25 hours/week).

Work location is in Commerce Place,10155 102 Street, Edmonton.
