Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer – Power BI & MicroStrategy
Location: Downtown Toronto (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per week)
Contract Duration: 12 months
Hours: Monday–Friday, 7 hours/day (35 hours/week)
Pay Rate: $50–70/hour
Overview
We are recruiting for a Senior BI Developer on behalf of our public sector client. In this role, you will design, develop, and enhance business intelligence solutions using Microsoft Power BI and MicroStrategy. You will work closely with business analysts and stakeholders to deliver dashboards, reports, and analytics that support critical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain BI solutions using Power BI and MicroStrategy
- Model and prepare datasets/semantic layers to support reporting needs
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather and refine requirements
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver high-quality solutions
- Migrate existing BI reports from MicroStrategy to Power BI
- Provide user support, guidance, and training on BI tools
- Maintain documentation according to PMO and development standards
- Provide time estimates and deliver work on schedule
Project Deliverables
- Self-serve analytics, dashboards, and reporting across finance, payroll, HR, and operations
- Time & attendance, vacancy, and absenteeism reporting
- Combined analytics leveraging attendance, payroll, and finance data
- Payroll sub-ledger and legacy payroll reporting
- Migration of BI reports from MicroStrategy to Power BI
- BI tool training and user enablement
Required Skills & Certifications:
Education: University degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Experience: 5+ years as a BI Developer, ideally on large enterprise projects
Preferred Certifications:
- Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate
- MicroStrategy certification (Architect, Developer, or equivalent)
Technical Expertise:
- Development of Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and reports
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, Synapse, and SQL Server (2019+)
- Power BI administration, deployment pipelines, and workspace management
- MicroStrategy (2020+): data cubes, dashboards, schemas, and reporting
- MicroStrategy Command Manager, Developer, and Object Manager tools
- Strong data modeling skills and experience connecting BI tools to data warehouses
Nice-to-Have: Public sector or transit experience
