We are seeking an experienced
Payroll Manager to provide leadership and oversight for a large, unionized payroll operation in the healthcare industry. This role is critical in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and seamless team management during a period of transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a payroll team, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing for over 4000 employees across unions.
- Oversee compliance with legislative requirements, CRA reporting, and segregation of duties.
- Review payroll outputs and manage external relationships, including with the Payroll Institute.
- Provide guidance and support to the team on complex processes and system usage (Lawson).
- Ensure year-end processes are completed accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with IT, Finance, and other managers to resolve payroll system issues and unexpected challenges.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and consultative team environment while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy and accountability.
- Identify training needs and support staff development on system functionality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
- PLP/CPM designation required.
- Minimum 6 years of payroll leadership experience, prior payroll manager experience is essential.
- Proven experience managing payroll in a unionized environment with large employee groups.
- Experience within the healthcare industry is a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll compliance, legislation, and year-end reporting.
- Strong leadership style: collaborative, accessible, and solutions-oriented.
- Ability to remain flexible during peak payroll periods, including occasional extended hours.
