Accountant – Mixed Location Work (Ottawa & Maxville, ON)
We are helping our client in the search for an Accountant. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, supporting lease management and construction cost tracking, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and statutory filings. The position combines day-to-day accounting with opportunities to contribute to business planning and operational efficiency. This is an on-site permanent role. The role is a mixed-location work arrangement based in Ottawa & Maxville, ON.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis and forecasting
- Manage lease documentation, renewals, and common area cost billing
- Track construction costs, manage financing, and reconcile intercompany balances (rent, CAM, insurance)
- Calculate and report quarterly bank covenants
- Ensure timely collection of rents and statutory filings (HST, income tax, etc.)
- Perform quarterly balance sheet reconciliations and prepare year-end audit working papers
- Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Maintain internal controls and update standard operating procedures
- Partner with operations and business departments to improve processes and decision-making
- Support internal, external, and government audits as needed
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of accounting/finance experience
- Professional designation (CGA, CPA, or CMA) or near completion
- Knowledge of Canadian GAAP practices
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint
- Highly organized with ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to implement and standardize accounting procedures
Education
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience in real estate or real estate funds
- Previous experience with lease administration or construction financing
- Background supporting audits in a corporate environment
