The Senior Manager, Global Finance - Subsidiary Financial Accounting and Reporting is responsible for the integrity of the data from financial systems, including PeopleSoft (version 8.9) and sub-ledger (e.g., Broadridge), ensuring all downstream reporting, regulatory compliance, and operational control functions for several Scotiabank subsidiaries are met. Hands on involvement in the preparation and review of the P&L and Balance Sheet for Bank Reporting. The incumbent provides financial reporting and management reporting in accordance with reporting requirements of its parent (BNS), Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), IFRS, government authorities and regulatory bodies. The incumbent also supervises a team of five, one manager and four Analysts and is responsible for the performance of the team on various financial information processing and analyses.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Co-ordinate the timely gathering of all financial information from various departments, branches, and subsidiary companies to produce financial records which serves as the starting point for preparation and submission of audited financial statements, regulatory filings, and internal management reports.
  • Ensure maintenance/integrity of the general ledger and Financial Information Systems through daily reconciliation of all sub ledger interfaces, authorization of opening and closing of accts & dept codes and updates to the interface tables.
  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of the source ledger financial data submission to the BNS EGL.
  • Review of monthly and annual regulatory reporting for SCI. Preparation of a monthly Statement A review package and annual Form 1 External auditor request schedules and Board Package Schedules.
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual Bank reporting (both P&L and Balance Sheet) and Turn Around Documents.  Prepare monthly review packages to facilitate senior management reviews.
  • Co-ordinate the completion and review of SCI’s year-end audited Form 1 and consolidated financial statements.
  • Provide reliable financial information, analyses and other support as required by senior management which often involves identifying potential impact of changes/initiatives and providing appropriate feedback or recommendation.
  • Manage departmental resources to meet tight deadlines and deliver high-quality financial outputs.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of financial statements and regulatory filings (CIRO), ensuring accuracy and compliance across all reporting streams.
    • Financial Reporting: Full suite of annual audited financial statements (incl. consolidations and notes disclosure)
    • Regulatory: CIRO – Form 1 - Balance Sheet and Income Statement
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of financial system (e.g., PeopleSoft 8.9), ensuring accurate general ledger and sub-ledger reconciliations and adherence to accounting policies.

  • Ensure all statutory and regulatory reporting aligns with IFRS standards, supporting both consolidated and stand-alone financial disclosures.
  • Implement robust audit procedures and operational risk (SOX) controls to safeguard the Bank’s assets and ensure capital usage compliance.
  • Manage and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a high-performance culture and delivering strategic financial insights to business leaders.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • University degree and recognized accounting designation (CPA), with a minimum of 5 years of financial institution experience and comprehensive knowledge of securities regulations. Solid background in accounting is essential to comprehend, interpret and compile complex projects, together with proven organizational skills.
  • Extensive understanding of accounting principles and practices, particularly within the securities, banking, and regulatory environments.
  • Ability to adapt to a number of conflicting deadlines and quickly grasp and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior internal stakeholders and external professional practitioners.
  • Expertise in General Ledger systems, with proven proficiency in PeopleSoft Financials (GL, AP) and associated reporting tools (e.g., OBI, SmartView, nVision, Broadridge).
  • Strong analytical and leadership capabilities to address complex challenges and effectively lead, motivate, mentor, and develop staff.
  • High level of mental effort is required with medium amount of non-routine functions.
