Microsoft Azure Data & BI Expert
Work Model & Location: Hybrid – remote with occasional onsite meetings in Ottawa
Contract Term: 7-hour workdays, initial contract term (details to be confirmed), with possible extension

Our client is seeking a Microsoft Azure Data & BI Expert with strong experience in Azure Synapse, dataflows, pipelines, and semantic modelling to support enterprise-wide reporting and analytics. The successful candidate will design and deliver scalable data solutions, develop bilingual semantic models, and provide business intelligence insights to improve operational and strategic decision-making.
Must-Have Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 3 years of experience developing and implementing system/software programs on Microsoft Azure technologies
Strong hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Pipelines, Dataflows, Notebooks, PySpark, Power BI
Experience in data manipulation, integrity checking, and building datasets/facts/dimensions for reporting and analytics
Knowledge of Medallion Architecture (Raw, Silver, Gold layers) and business intelligence concepts (semantic data modelling, star schemas)
Experience with multiple data formats (Parquet, Delta, JSON), SQL queries, stored procedures, REST APIs, and JIRA
Strong programming/analytical skills and ability to debug and optimize ELT processes
Experience creating bilingual semantic models and dashboards for Power BI
Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written)
Nice-to-Have
Experience with statistical analysis tools (R, Python, SPSS, SAS, SQL Developer)
Experience in big data/cloud integrations and API services
Strong stakeholder engagement and project management experience
