The Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Occupational Disease (OD) Research Associate!

The Strategic Evidence and Action unit (SEA) provides a framework for the prevention and reduction of occupational disease in Alberta workplaces. The work of the unit is closely linked with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program Delivery. The SEA research stream provides evidence to guide OHS program delivery and policies, administers a grant funding program, and fosters collaboration within the Government of Alberta and with other jurisdictions and scholars with the goal of improving the health and safety of Alberta workers.

This scientific position is responsible for supporting the Occupational Disease Scientific Lead in designing and tracking occupational disease prevention research projects, conducting environmental scans, managing projects, evaluating programs, and preparing briefing notes, scientific and other reports.

Responsibilities:

• Collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data and information for writing literature reviews, reports, abstracts, manuscripts and other knowledge translation activities.
• Collecting and summarizing new information on emerging OHS issues (environmental scanning, jurisdictional scanning, horizon scanning).
• Presenting research and other information to various internal and external stakeholders.
• Collecting and maintaining data related to grants, publications, and other research and program evaluation results, supporting management of research grants.
• Collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information related to applied research in occupational health, medicine, or related fields.
• Providing technical assistance to other personnel to build capacity for continuous self-assessment.
• Working collaboratively to assist in classifying cases as to relevant occupation and industry codes.
• Assisting with the implementation, analysis, and dissemination of province-wide occupational health surveillance data.
• Assisting with knowledge translation of occupational disease and injury research.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• University graduation in a health-related discipline; no experience required.

The following knowledge or experiences are considered as assets:

• Master’s degree is preferred.
• Experience in research methodologies and analysis.
• Experience in finding, evaluating, and synthesizing evidence.
• Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles, processes, and requirements.
• Experience in program evaluation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (MS Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access.
• Experience in Internet searches.
• Experience in SAS Statistical Software.
• Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Notes

This is a temporary (up to 12 months), full-time position, working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.  

This position is located in Edmonton or Red Deer or Calgary, Alberta.
