What we’re looking for

The LR Advisory group is seeking a qualified Intermediate Engineer in compressible flows and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to join our experienced Explosion and Fluid Dynamics Team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Our Canadian advisory team is an established engineering research and consulting group specializing in the development and application of advanced engineering solutions for clients in the marine, public safety, and defense sectors.  Formerly operating as Martec Limited, the company has been in business since 1973. Employees in the LR Advisory team enjoy an intellectually challenging and collegial working environment with generous benefits and a corporate culture that places a strong emphasis on individual creativity and initiative. We have flexible working arrangements which allow for a combination of in-office and at-home work.

The role will include:

  • Work with a team of high-performing engineers delivering innovative solutions to a range of client challenges, particularly in the areas of public safety, industry, and defence
  • Provide consultancy services in areas relating to explosive blast, reactive flows, compressible-flow computational fluid dynamics, and structural response to blast through application of new models and modification of existing codes
  • Develop and maintain internal software using agreed upon code standards and associated processes
  • Deliver agreed upon project scope of work on time and on budget
  • Contribute to, and prepare, technical reports and scientific publications
  • Provide clear and concise communication with clients and internal/external stakeholders
  • Build relationships with internal and external clients, be hands on in assessing complex problems, and help build the business
  • Participate in proposal development and provide estimates for own time
  • Take personal responsibility for delivering own goals and targets, without requiring significant supervision
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development while maintaining a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness. Take ownership for own development, seeking opportunities for self-development

What you bring

  • Demonstrated experience in the development/application of CFD models
  • Experience in computer programming / CFD code development
  • Be eligible for Personal Security Clearance with the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate
  • Actively participate in our safety management system to ensure safe working conditions for you, your co-workers, our clients, and the general public

Considered an asset

  • Demonstrated experience in explosion/shock/blast physics (or a related area)
  • Demonstrated experience in the analysis of structural response to highly dynamic loadings, and experience in using FEA tools such as LS-DYNA
  • Experience in machine learning (ML) algorithms and application of ML models.
  • Experience in the marine industry and ship hydrodynamics
