We are currently seeking an experienced Controller to join a dynamic and growing team in the real estate and construction sector, located onsite in Ottawa (5 days/week). This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of accounting operations, including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, and revenue recognition, while ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in financial reporting, budgeting, and audit management.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Manage year-end processes, audits
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements including CRA
  • Develop and manage cash flow forecasting and reporting
  • Monitor and improve financial controls, processes, and systems
  • Lead the preparation and management of the annual budget and periodic reforecasting
  • Manage intercompany transactions and property-level financial reporting
  • Coordinate with internal teams to gather information for financial analysis
  • Oversee and support day-to-day finance operations within Sage and Yardi
  • Work closely with leadership to provide business insights and strategic recommendations

 

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation required
  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Experience with Yardi and Sage accounting systems preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of cash flow management, compliance, and financial reporting
  • Proven experience managing audits and working with external accountants
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to work with large data sets
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
