We are currently partnering with a leading organization in the defence and engineering sector to recruit for a Deputy Project Manager – Waterfront Operations. This is a permanent opportunity based in Victoria, BC, offering the chance to contribute to some of Canada’s most critical marine support initiatives.

This role is ideal for a seasoned project professional with experience managing large-scale, complex operations. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team responsible for overseeing the performance of high-impact projects within a technically demanding and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team of direct reports and coordinate up to 200 indirect personnel involved in project delivery.

  • Support the senior project leadership team in driving day-to-day operational performance.

  • Manage full project lifecycle activities including planning, execution, change control, budgeting, scheduling, and close-out.

  • Develop and oversee detailed project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.

  • Ensure effective cost management by working closely with finance and functional teams.

  • Engage with stakeholders and subcontractors to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of project commitments.

  • Monitor project health and report progress to internal and external stakeholders using robust performance management tools.

  • Support risk and opportunity management initiatives, including the development of mitigation and recovery plans.

  • Foster collaboration across functional areas such as Production, Engineering, Quality, and Planning to ensure seamless integration.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and performance enhancement initiatives across the organization.

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will bring:

  • A post-secondary education in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience managing or supporting major infrastructure, defence, or marine-related projects.

  • Hands-on experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) systems.

  • Strong proficiency with detailed project scheduling and planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).

  • PMP certification (or higher) with active membership in the Project Management Institute (PMI).

  • Proven leadership capabilities in a multi-stakeholder, high-complexity environment.

  • Strong customer-facing communication skills and the ability to convey information clearly across multiple organizational levels.

  • Demonstrated reporting experience tailored to both senior leadership and operational teams.

  • Attention to detail, high levels of organization, and a solution-focused mindset.

  • Knowledge of ERP systems, QA/QC frameworks, and project control methodologies.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to obtain Canadian Secret Security Clearance and ITAR compliance.

This is a rare opportunity to join a nationally recognized project team working on mission-critical operations that directly support Canada’s defence and emergency service capabilities. If you are a proactive leader with a background in complex technical project environments, we’d love to connect with you.
