Deputy Project Manager – Waterfront Operations

Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary Range: $88,000 to $110,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
We are currently partnering with a leading organization in the defence and engineering sector to recruit for a Deputy Project Manager – Waterfront Operations. This is a permanent opportunity based in Victoria, BC, offering the chance to contribute to some of Canada’s most critical marine support initiatives.
This role is ideal for a seasoned project professional with experience managing large-scale, complex operations. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team responsible for overseeing the performance of high-impact projects within a technically demanding and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a small team of direct reports and coordinate up to 200 indirect personnel involved in project delivery.
Support the senior project leadership team in driving day-to-day operational performance.
Manage full project lifecycle activities including planning, execution, change control, budgeting, scheduling, and close-out.
Develop and oversee detailed project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
Ensure effective cost management by working closely with finance and functional teams.
Engage with stakeholders and subcontractors to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of project commitments.
Monitor project health and report progress to internal and external stakeholders using robust performance management tools.
Support risk and opportunity management initiatives, including the development of mitigation and recovery plans.
Foster collaboration across functional areas such as Production, Engineering, Quality, and Planning to ensure seamless integration.
Contribute to continuous improvement and performance enhancement initiatives across the organization.
Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will bring:
A post-secondary education in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
A minimum of 8 years’ experience managing or supporting major infrastructure, defence, or marine-related projects.
Hands-on experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) systems.
Strong proficiency with detailed project scheduling and planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
PMP certification (or higher) with active membership in the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Proven leadership capabilities in a multi-stakeholder, high-complexity environment.
Strong customer-facing communication skills and the ability to convey information clearly across multiple organizational levels.
Demonstrated reporting experience tailored to both senior leadership and operational teams.
Attention to detail, high levels of organization, and a solution-focused mindset.
Knowledge of ERP systems, QA/QC frameworks, and project control methodologies.
