The Communicable Disease Control Branch plays a vital role in protecting the health of Albertans by providing leadership and direction for disease control, immunization, and public health surveillance. As part of this mission, the Public Health Information Systems unit ensures that data systems are accurate, reliable, and support the delivery of safe and effective public health programs. Within this dynamic environment, we are seeking a dedicated Data Quality Coordinator to join the Public Health Information Systems (PHIS) unit.

We are seeking a Data Quality Coordinator to lead data quality assurance and monitoring initiatives for our immunization information systems. In this role, you will ensure that health records are accurate, complete, and timely providing a strong foundation for public health decision-making.

Role Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Data Quality Coordinator to join our team. In this key role, you will help ensure the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of Alberta’s immunization records critical to the success of our immunization program and public trust. This is a dynamic and high-responsibility position suited for a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholders and systems.

The job responsibilities include:
Data Quality Assurance and Monitoring
•    Lead complex audits and in-depth reviews of immunization records.
•    Design and implement data validation and correction protocols.
•    Investigate and resolve data discrepancies with providers, vendors, and partners.
•    Develop and deliver routine reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
•    Identify and analyze systemic data quality issues and recommend solutions.
•    Act as the primary contact for escalated data inquiries and discrepancies.

Information Management
•    Ensure data privacy and compliance with health information policies and regulations.
•    Maintain thorough documentation, metadata, and audit trails to support data governance.
•    Conduct risk assessments and recommend strategies to address data integrity issues.
•    Analyze and troubleshoot operational inefficiencies in immunization information systems.

Communication and Collaboration
•    Work cross-functionally with analysts, managers, and healthcare professionals.
•    Provide expert advice and training to immunizers, data entry teams, and stakeholders.
•    Foster strong working relationships with internal and external partners including Alberta Health Services, First Nations health providers, and pharmacies.
•    Collaborate with program teams to ensure data quality supports effective public health reporting and evaluation.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards
High school diploma and three years of related experience.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

The following experience is required: 
•    The Data Quality Coordinator role demands strong attention to detail, effective communication, and a sound understanding of immunization submission processes. 
•    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data quality issues and develop effective solutions.
•    Experience with data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, Power BI, etc.) to assist with reporting, performance monitoring and data-driven decision making.
•    Excellent time and project management skills, capable of independently managing work and meeting deadlines.
•    Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks, competing priorities, and urgent demands, while maintaining attention to detail.
•    Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards for quality and accuracy.
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data issues to various audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
•    Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships across teams and organizations.
•    Proven ability to work well in a team, contributing to branch, division, and departmental goals with a strong understanding of core public health functions.
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and comfortable using web tools, email, and basic database software such as Microsoft Access, etc.

The following experience is considered as assets:
•    Experience with computer science, information systems, health, and pharmacy techs.
•    Demonstrate initiative and creativity in identifying improvements to data processes and workflows.

The following experience will be given preference:
•    Capable of translating business needs and action plans into practical work plans that contribute to broader objectives.
•    Ability to exercise sound judgment and a high degree of independent decision-making.

Notes

Hours of work are 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week.
