Agilus is recruiting for a Sr. Estimator - Shoring in the Construction industry in Vaughan, Ontario.
We are looking for a seasoned and highly capable Senior Estimator – Shoring to join our clients team. This position plays a key role in developing precise and competitive cost estimates for shoring and excavation projects, including temporary support structures, earth retention systems, and deep foundation work. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in civil construction, a solid grasp of geotechnical engineering principles, and in-depth knowledge of shoring methods and materials.
A typical day:
Lead the end-to-end estimating process for shoring and excavation projects, from initial concept through to bid submission
Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and related documentation to produce comprehensive cost estimates
Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather accurate pricing and scope details
Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, cost breakdowns, and risk evaluations and assemble bid packages and proposals, ensuring alignment with client expectations and company standards
Assess subcontractor and supplier quotations for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness
Attend pre-bid meetings, conduct site visits, and participate in client presentations as needed
Maintain and enhance historical cost data and unit pricing databases for future reference and offer value engineering insights and propose alternative solutions to improve cost efficiency
Mentor junior estimators and actively contribute to the ongoing improvement of estimating practices
Successful candidates will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline—or equivalent professional experience
(Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility preferred)
7 to 10 years of proven experience in estimating shoring, excavation, or other civil construction projects
In-depth knowledge of shoring systems such as soldier piles and lagging, sheet piling, secant walls, tiebacks, and soil nails
Proficient in industry-standard estimating tools and software, including HCSS, HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication abilities
Capable of working independently while managing multiple estimates concurrently.
Strong understanding of construction techniques, safety protocols, and applicable local regulations
Experience with design-build or alternative delivery methods and
familiarity with geotechnical engineering principles and soil mechanics preferred
